First of all, thank you, Max, for allowing me to use the NWO site as a sounding board to help us all in our efforts. I appreciate the trust you've shown. You've gained a long-time friend. I sent this message out to everyone, but I would also like to leave it here in the forum for review and discussion by all members.
Hello, everyone:
I’m reaching out to all of you for your help – to help all of us who have an appreciation and a passion for poetry and spoken word. It takes a village – and this (Poetry/Spoken Word) is our baby. I’m reaching out for help from both Poets/Spoken Word artists and fans of the artform.
I need to ask all poets and spoken word artists to join me on ISeeColor.com. It’s Michael Baisden’s network site built on the Ning platform. I want to take advantage of the publicity that Spoken Word is receiving by doing something creative to turn people onto Spoken Word who may not have been fans in the past. In addition, the MB show is looking for new artists. Here’s what I need you to do:
1. Create your profile pages on ISeeColor.com (add a music playlist) to your page. After you’ve created your page and added your playlists, go to “The B Side Producer” page and leave the comment “Check out my music.”
2. Please add me as a friend and if you don’t mind, please ask your fans to do the same. Please trust me. This will help us all… not just me.
3. If you’re a performer and you have been recording your work, please send a headshot and your weblink to me at: atlanta.red@gmail.com. Please use subject line: “Poetry/Spoken Word Artists.” That will help me to see it in my inbox.
This will help to drive exposure for many of us as artists. I will update my page daily with new headshots on my page.
I’m also reaching out to my friends, fans and supporters. Please do… join me on the site and ask your friends to do the same. Once you’re there listen to not only my work, but the work of other artists and connect with them.
I love poetry this much. As far as I’m concerned, we’re all in the same family as gifted artists. There’s no competition among us, there’s only differences in style, perspective, and approach. Let’s see what we can do to together in order to expand the market and gain acceptance for Spoken Word in the industry of music. If it happened for rap and hip-hop, it can happen for us. If it’s unreasonable for me to think it can happen, then I’m glad that I don’t have the negative experiences to believe otherwise. This is an aspect of my faith.
One love,
Atlanta Red

P.S. If you were on my page earlier, I had a typo in the section where I was shouting out artists who provided headshots. It was supposed to read “oneness” and not… “oness.” I fixed it as soon as I realized the error this a.m. Please share your thoughts and ideas with me on what we’re trying to accomplish with the publicity. Let’s take please advantage of this opportunity together.
