The New Word Order

Virgogray is a proud producer of chapbook publications and will bring poetry back to the poet and to the reader with this format. Chapbooks have existed for centuries, and has proven a catalyst at pivotal points in history. Several great authors and poets began their work in chaps and penny dreadfuls, and by self-publication. While the business minded or elitest scholars consider chapbook writing to be "literary suicide," there is a total different set of values for chapbooks and the work produced therein at Virgogray Press.

Virgogray is currently accepting submissions for it's next cycle of publishing and has several opportunities for writer's interested in sharing their work or gaining a wider audience. If you are interested in getting your poetry published, please read the following...

Currently Virgogray accepts only works of poetry. There are three different ways to do this:

Chapbook Submission

Virgogray accepts chapbook submission's year round. Manuscripts should be 25-40 pages in length. Please include contact info and page number on each page of your manuscript. If you have art concepts or artwork you would like included, please state so in your cover letter. Please be mindful, this is not necessary. Send 2 copies of your manuscript, or one hard copy and one copy on disc saved as a .doc file or word file. Please include any acknowledgments or publishing credits in your cover letter (please note, publication credit is NOT how we choose a manuscript)

Compensation: Virgogray offers 20 copies of your published work and promotional services. Currently, we cannot pay out published writers, but hope to in the future.

Virgogray Press 1st Annual Fall Chapbook Contest

Virgogray Press is holding it's First Annual Fall Chapbook Contest. The contest will be moderated by myself and two other unknown judges. This contest is a celebration of creativity and so we will be mainly looking at poetic voice and creativity. There is a $10 entry/reading fee (payable by check, money order or well concealed cash only). Same guidelines apply for submissions. This competition does not accept simultaneous submissions or previously published collections! Deadline is June 20th, 2009.

Compensation: Winner receives $100 cash prize, 20 copies of their published work, promotional services and the opportunity to publish again with Virgogray as an in-house author.

An Anthology of Death

Virgogray will be publishing an anthology of poetry based on the subject of death. I am not looking for anything in particular-- everything-- all types of poems are welcome. I am looking for as much content as possible on this collection, with as many different voices as possible. The collection does have a title, but that title shall remain undisclosed at this time. The collection will be released toward the end of 2009. Deadline is August 20th, 2009. No simultaneous submissions. No previously published material. Original work only.

Compensation:

Author's whose work is featured in this publication will receive a copy of the book, and an invitation to submit a manuscript to Virgogray Press.

Hello, poets. Just an update on Virgogray submissions:

We are now accepting submissions for the second Virgogray Chapbook Anthology entitled "So it Goes..."
This is an anthology about death and I am looking forward to reading many viewpoints and tones concerning this subject.
If you or anyone you know is interested in having their work collected in a handsome little publication for others to read, please submit.
Submissions close August 30th. We've tacked on 10 extra days to the original sub deadline.

Also, thanks to everyone who submitted "Valium" our frist anthology. The release date on this is August 25th, 2009. We're looking forward to sharing some great poetry with all of you.

Please note: The Virgogray Fall Chapbook Competition has been cancelled due to lack of interest. While we are constantly recieving manuscripts for our regular publishing cycle, not too many have been contributed to the chapbook competition. All monies will be refunded. Fear not, there are some great things coming from Virgogray nonetheless including two new collections of poetry by poets Suzi Kaplan Olmsted & Justin Blackburn! Stay tuned!
