My story didn't start out glamorous and flashy. I really didn't even realize I was writing poetry and I know you wonder how that could be.
So if you don't mind, I'm going to do a little story on me.........
See once there was this little girl, she had been beaten on since the age of one. She was the oldest of five children, three girls and two boys. She was born to an Indian/German father and an Irish/French mother.
Her father was a drunk and cheated on her mother. Her mother was beautiful so she couldn't figure out why he cheated on her. But see her mother was also very spoiled and expected her way all the time. She didn't clean up and only cooked for her husband.
Most of the time the children had to eat sandwiches or go next door to their grandmothers to eat.
Well see one day, the mother came up with what she thought was a great plan. She would turn her oldest daughter Jeanice, into his other woman, thus keeping him at home and it in the family. Guess what it worked, he went for it and thus, Jeanice became her fathers slave.
Jeanice was no longer able to play with her brothers and sisters, she now had to do as her master said. Nightly her mother came and got her to perform for her now "Master" and mother. Now she had other duties as well, around the house she was the "slave". It was while all of this was going on that she learned through reading she could go any where and be anyone. So one day, when it had been a particularly hard day, she decided to write it all down.
The next week in school she had to do some writing assignments, such as writing some poems, and short stories. Her eleventh grade teacher read them and insisted she become a writer.
At first she paid it no mind, but then she noticed, when things were rough, it was a great way to get things out. See she could write all she wanted and thats what she did.
As she went through different situations in life, she kept up her writings. Though she lost a lot of her writings, she did't stop. As a matter of fact it helped her through abusive relationships, times of homeliness and trails with her children. Domestic violence and rape were demons she had to fight, and fight she did through her writes. Her writing was a way of healing. As she began to reflect back over her live, she was able to write to the ones that hurt her and thus be able to forgive them.
Then in the year of 2008 she made a big move. She packed up her two boys and they caught a bus from VA to Ohio. It was a 23 hour ride, to get there and still deal with many situations. It was this same year, that she saw her writings start to change. As she grew within herself and started to love herself more, her writings began to reflect the change.
Now as the spokenword artist and poet she is, she is working on projects to help others become all that they can be. She is inspired mostly by God, her children, her experiences and her desire to help others over come. Her desire is to let others know racism is a big thing we all still deal with, along with domestic violence and self acceptance. For our youth, education and the power to be.............Encouraging all to know that you are never to old or young for your dream to come true..........
